I am drawn to texture and pattern, specifically to those that occur from the process of time passing.  The crevices and ruptures that occur in boulders, the earth or ruins, the patinas built up over time on surfaces within the natural landscape, rusting metals or ancient vessels - all of these provide the inspiration for my abstract work. These visible indications of time past evoke a history, a richness and a depth that I find compelling and beautiful.

Using both additive and subtractive processes, my paintings consist of multiple layers which are worked to reveal previous layers, allowing the piece to evolve and visual contrasts to emerge and find balance. Chaos and order, definition and ambiguous expanses, separation and merger co-exist as they do in our own lives and selves. The result is the sum of all that has come before, an acknowledgement that within the layered complexities of experience one finds beauty and meaning.
