The accumulated marks and defects that occur over time, both within nature and within the objects that surround us, have always been of interest to me. Crevices and ruptures in boulders and ancient ruins, patinas that develop on aged surfaces, cracks in pavement, these reveal a history.

A closer look at what is usually considered age or damage signal that something has lived, changed and weathered storms.

Using both additive and subtractive processes, my paintings consist of multiple layers, each worked to both cover and reveal what has occurred previously.  They are an accumulation of texture and converging line in search of balance. Visual contrasts emerge and co-exist: chaos and order, constriction and expansion, separation and merger. As these evolve and unfold they offer a glimpse into what has come before. Each painting is an exploration of how the layered complexities and imperfections that arise create depth and offer meaning - as they do in our own lives and psyches.
