The accumulated marks and defects that occur over time, both within nature and within the objects that surround us, create texture and natural design that have always drawn me in. Crevices and ruptures in the earth and stone, ancient ruins, patinas that develop on aged surfaces, cracks in pavement; all of these reveal a history. They signal that something has lived, changed, weathered storms and continues to survive.
Using both additive and subtractive processes, my paintings consist of multiple layers, each worked to both cover and reveal what has occurred previously. They are an accumulation of texture and converging line where visual contrasts emerge and co-exist. As these evolve they offer a glimpse into what has come before. Each painting is an exploration of multi layered complexities, imperfections and how these might offer meaning as they unfold - as they do in our own lives and psyches.
